Mommy Makeover: Remember Your Pre-Baby Body?
Mother's Day is a special time when moms across Long Island and across the country are recognized for their amazing achievements and daily devotion to their families. Dr. Romanelli and his staff hope that you enjoy your special day and get to relax while taking some well-deserved time for yourself.
It's too bad that there's only one official day when the focus is all on mom. As a mother, you've had to give up a lot of yourself in your efforts to support your family, and the sacrifices are worth it for the joy your children bring. But let's be honest: not every change that comes with motherhood is a positive one, and if you're like many moms, you might look in the mirror now and then and reminisce about the days when you looked and felt much younger.
In the spirit of "having it all," more and more women are learning that they don't have to give up their youthful looks to raise their children – in short, they can feel fantastic about themselves and their families. Their secret? A combined plastic surgery procedure known as a "mommy makeover."
You may have read about mommy makeovers in recent issues of your favorite magazine or seen a TV news feature on these increasingly popular cosmetic procedures. Dr. Romanelli performs mommy makeovers to help women turn back the clock on such areas as the stomach, hips, and breasts – the places most likely to suffer the effects of pregnancy and childbirth.
The mommy makeovers Dr. Romanelli performs are not one-size-fits-all procedures. Each procedure is specially customized to a particular mom's need. After pregnancy, most women see unwelcome changes in the abdominal area, which only makes sense – no other area of your body undergoes greater changes during pregnancy. Once the baby arrives, it takes more than a snap of your fingers or a wave of a wand for your body to "bounce back" to its pre-pregnancy shape, and in many cases, the only way to tighten stretched-out abdominal muscles is through a tummy tuck procedure on Long Island. In fact, abdominoplasty is the cornerstone of most mommy makeovers.
But cosmetic improvement doesn't need to stop at your tummy. Pregnancy and nursing can cause your breasts to lose shape, size, and contour. Thankfully, Dr. Romanelli offers several breast enhancement procedures – including breast lift and breast augmentation for Long Island moms – to help moms who want to regain their youthful breast contour. Mommy makeover candidates also may choose:
- Liposuction to remove excess fat tissue in the hips, thighs, and arms
- Facial sculpting procedures such as eyelid lift or BOTOX® Cosmetic
If you're like many moms, these cosmetic improvements sound appealing – after all, who hasn't considered a little nip and tuck? – but you worry about taking time away from your family. Dr. Romanelli understands the unique needs of moms choosing plastic surgery and uses techniques to minimize recovery so you can be back on your feet within a matter of days. You can learn more about your Long Island mommy makeover options online, and when you're ready, request a free surgical consultation to talk with Dr. Romanelli in more detail.
Dr. Romanelli Offers Plastic Surgery Videos Online
These days, people considering cosmetic surgery do plenty of homework on the Web. Reading about procedures is a great way to get a little background on the cosmetic improvements you're considering, but what if you could hear more about the procedures in a surgeon's own words?
That's the idea behind the video clips Dr. Romanelli has just added to his Web site. When you view Dr. Romanelli's videos, you'll get a much better understanding of what cosmetic surgery can do for you, and you'll get insights into Dr. Romanelli's philosophy and personal style. In the video clips, Dr. Romanelli talks through different procedures, aspects of the practice, and important topics in plastic surgery today.
Of particular interest to women considering breast augmentation on Long Island are the video segments in which Dr. Romanelli demonstrates the durability of saline and silicone gel implants. For many women, these clinical demonstrations are an eye-opening experience and the first time they have seen how an implant behaves once ruptured.
Dr. Romanelli hopes these videos help to create a warm, personal introduction to his practice for his Web visitors. The online world may continue to grow, but there's no substitute for a face-to-face discussion, especially when you're ready to take the next step and get a personal assessment of your cosmetic goals. Request a free surgical consultation for a no-pressure, no-commitment discussion with Dr. Romanelli at his convenient Long Island plastic surgery location.
In the News: "Boob Job in a Jab"
Though it's not quite ready for prime time in America, a new injectable cosmetic treatment is getting a lot of press overseas. Unlike the injectables you may already know about – products like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Radiesse® and Juvéderm™ – this latest filler forgoes the face and focuses on areas of the body and breast.
You heard that right – Macrolane is an injectable filler that increases breast size without surgery, scarring or significant downtime. This product is offered by the makers of Restylane®, the popular facial filler here in the U.S. It originally achieved success in Japan as a breast enhancement treatment and was introduced in the U.K. in January.
So is Macrolane the next step in the quest for the "perfect" breast augmentation? Long Island women shouldn't book those international plane tickets just yet. While a minimally-invasive, minimal-downtime treatment at first seems like big excitement, there are reasons to be skeptical. For starters, the injectable treatment produces only subtle enlargement – it is not a solution for a woman with A-cup breasts who wants a much more voluptuous look.
In addition, like almost all injectable treatments, results are only temporary. Most women who have had Macrolane treatments see their results begin to fade after about a year. Another issue is cost – in the U.K. for instance, maintaining a result achieved with Macrolane can cost as much over 2 years as a traditional silicone implant procedure, which can last 5 to 10 times longer.
What's the future of Macrolane in the United States? There's no FDA approval yet, but it's probably only a matter of time before this non-surgical enhancement option catches on with American physicians and patients. When seen for what it truly is – a temporary breast shaper – Macrolane may indeed have a place in the cosmetic surgeon's treatment menu. Dr. Romanelli will continue to monitor this and other trends in breast enhancement so he can provide a complete line of safe, effective options for his Long Island breast augmentation patients.
