Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift) | Romanelli Cosmetic Surgery

Video Transcript

Blepharoplasty is the technical term for an eyelid lift. It can involve the upper eyelids or the lower eyelids. Typically, what patients tell me when they come in is that they have extra skin on their upper eyelids. Their upper eyelids look heavy, they look tired, people ask them if they're angry. The upper eyelids are really about removing that extra skin there. With the lower eyelid lift, there is sometimes some extra skin to be removed. Usually, the most prominent factor though are the bags, the extra baggage, the puffiness of the lower lids. That's what patients are looking for correction on.

There's very little discomfort associated with an eyelid lift. Most of our patients take just a Tylenol or a Motrin like, Advil like medication. There's some stinging, there's some soreness, a little bit of blurry vision when the patient wakes up because of the protective ointment that we place on the eyes. Most people are surprised, they expected to hurt and there's very little discomfort in fact.

Following eyelid surgery, the recovery is actually very quick the sutures, the stitches, are removed at about five or six days after surgery. The day following that, it's possible to put on cover up makeup. Most of my patients are able to be out to dinner with friends a week after surgery. There may be a little bit of bruising that persists for two to three weeks, but that can typically be covered by makeup. I wouldn't recommend somebody have eyelid surgery a week or two before their daughter's wedding. We like to put those things off several months, but the recovery is actually quite quick.
